Sometimes we all do it. We eat too much, drink too much, or just have too much of any “good” thing. So, what do you do when you wake up after a day of “too much”? We decide to change!
First, let’s hydrate with some warm lemon water. It will help clear out some of the toxins that have accumulated in your body and help rid your system of them. Next, let’s move! Anything will help, but a yoga session with lots of twists to “wring” out your digestive system, would be best. Next, more hydration, and a simple clean eating meal. One of my favorites? Dr. Weil’s True Food Kitchen Salad. It is simple easy and tastes delicious. Here’s the recipe.
4-6 cups kale, loosely packed, sliced leaves of Italian black (Lacinato, “dinosaur,” cavolo nero) midribs removed
juice of 1 lemon
3-4 tablespoons extra-virgin olive oil
2 cloves garlic, mashed
salt & pepper, to taste
hot red pepper flakes, to taste
2/3 cup grated Pecorino Toscano cheese (Rosselino variety if you can find it) or other flavorful grating cheese such as Asiago or Parmesan
1/2 cup freshly made bread crumbs from lightly toasted bread
Whisk together lemon juice, olive oil, garlic, salt, pepper, and a generous pinch (or more to taste) of hot red pepper flakes.
Pour over kale in serving bowl and toss well.
Add 2/3 of the cheese and toss again.
Let kale sit for at least 5 minutes. Add bread crumbs, toss again, and top with remaining cheese.
Take a short walk after lunch, hydrate then relax. You are well on your way to recovering from a overindulgent day/night.
Remember how your body feels after eating/drinking too much. Keeping these thoughts fresh in your mind will help you to not repeat those actions again.
