rainy day meditation

Summer has finally arrived, yet the day outside you were planning…is on a rain delay. What to do, what to do? Let’s meditate! Ok, the exclamation point was a bit much…but what better time to focus on your inner self, than when we are stuck inside?

Personally, I (occasionally) love a rainy day. It almost stops me in my tracks, and slows me down. Now, let’s be honest. It’s not always perfect timing…or, is it?

Life gets busy. Your schedule gets hectic. You haven’t taken ten minutes to yourself in a month, or two…or more…And, I can’t think of a better time for a “slow down”.

It is really pretty simple to start meditating. Just sit and be quiet.

Wait, your kids are screaming in the background yelling for you? Your life revolves around the needs and wants of others? Let’s take this slowly…

You are awake, and everyone else is sleeping/quiet/busy (for the time being). No matter what the circumstances, let’s take this time for you. Find a quiet space. Raining or not, find a place that has a tranquil noise that soothes you. It could be the rain, the sound of nature, or even the breath of your baby sleeping. As long as it keeps you feeling fulfilled in your soul.

Now, here comes the difficult part. Sit up tall. Use a bolster, pillow, or blanket if you like. Start to inhale. Fill your belly with air, let it expand. Let the air rise upward, filling your chest. Release through your shoulders as you exhale and release.

Now, close your eyes and continue. Breathing in and out. Slowly. Methodically.

Or, until the baby starts screaming for your attention. Or, the dog can’t wait one more minute to go out.

I get it.

Life is ever changing. You will have moments of chaos, and time of silence. Take advantage of all of these experiences. One day you will look back and wish you had spent more time in the “now’ .

Take the time you have to meditate, and spend time alone whenever you can. But, never take for granted those moments you have with friends and family. Those are the most precious moments I have in my life, and I love them. Take it all in. Use your time wisely. Love the beauty of all things around you.

If you only get 4 minutes to yourself today, use it to clear your mind and reset. You can do this. I have faith in you. Use your time. When, you can.
